Susan Ireland is the Team Leader for the Damn Good Resume Team and Webmaster of the Damn Good Resume website. She is a resume expert and the author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Perfect Resume.
In Yana Parker’s Footsteps
Susan Ireland learned resume writing from the late, great Yana Parker. It all started in 1989 when Yana took Susan on as an apprentice, teaching her the tricks of the trade. It was a year-long training course and lots of hands-on resume coaching. Many of those resumes were published in Yana’s books.
Yana and Susan built a strong bond that led to lots of projects including train-the-trainer workshops, resume newsletters, and resume book projects. Before Yana passed away in 2000, she asked Susan to continue with the Damn Good Resume website.
Susan trained each of the members of The Damn Good Resume Team. That resume training is based on the training Susan received from Yana. And so, Yana’s work continues in print, online, and in person.
Susan Ireland in Her Own Right
In 1995, Susan became an author in her own right, with the book The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Perfect Resume (now in its 5th edition). She went on to write three more job search books: The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Perfect Cover Letter, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Cool Jobs for Teens, and Get a Better Job the Lazy Way.
In 2003 Susan launched her resume builder, Ready-Made Resumes, which is a premium membership site that is licensed to job seekers and organizations. It uses the same resume templates and cover letter templates that grew out of Susan’s work with Yana over the years and are still used by the resume writers on the Damn Good Resume Team.
