Here is a solid resume sample for a position as a Warehouse Worker and/or Driver. The job seeker uses the functional resume format to show the reader that he has the skills and experience needed for this type of job, even though his most relevant work experience was many years ago. Let’s see how he does it!
About this Resume Sample
Martin (not his real name) had worked in a warehouse at Tri-City Paper for two years, but it was more than five years ago. He has also worked as a mover in his current job, as well as a number of years ago at Felix Trucking. Using the functional format for his resume allows Martin to highlight his skills and experience. At the same time, he can downplay the jobs he has had that are not as central to a warehouse role. Let’s take a closer look at Martin’s resume.
- In his Highlights of Qualifications section, Martin briefly tells the reader about his overall skills. He also mentions his volunteer work. This will not only show his skill in working with people, it will also help him a great deal if he wants to work in a non-profit or community service agency.
- Martin has listed his three skill sets in the order that is most fitting for the job or jobs he would like to do. Since he has listed Warehouse Worker and/or Driver in his Objective, he makes sure that two of his skill headings announce his work in a warehouse and as a driver. The third skill heading tells us that Martin also has mechanical talents!
- He has listed his work history in two sections on his resume. In his Recent Employment History, Martin lists the exact years he worked at each job. After this section, he has a new section called Other Related Work Experience. In this part of his resume, he tells the reader the number of years he held each role, instead of listing the years that he worked at each company. This is a unique way to show that he has the skills needed for the job he wants, and hides how long ago he did those jobs, as well as a few spans of unemployment!
- In the Education and Training section, Martin tells us that he is a high school grad and that he also has taken some college coursework.
