Take a peek at this resume sample for Customer Service in the hospitality industry. It is a functional resume, which should be used only for really hard-to-present work histories. (See 4 Reasons Not to Use a Functional Resume.)
Let’s take a close look at this sample resume to see why this format was used.
About the Resume Sample
Arnie (not his real name) decided to use the functional resume format, so that he could combine his experience at Harrah’s and at Harvey’s into a few choice Customer Relations statements. Here are a few things we especially like about this sample resume:
- Arnie has kept this resume to a crisp one page, which is perfect for the type of job he is seeking and the experience he is sharing on his resume.
- By stating “…within the hospitality industry” in his Objective, Arnie lets the reader know where he would prefer to work.
- By mentioning Las Vegas as a “mecca,” Arnie is implying that to be successful there, one would have to be good at the job!
- He has also chosen to use his nickname, rather than the more formal “Arnold,” to let the reader know that, while he is a professional, he is also a friendly and personable guy, and would like to be called “Arnie.”
